Privacy Policy
NGO Finder is a public directory that helps people find NGOs, police stations, hospitals, and emergency services in South Africa.
We try to collect as little personal information as possible. Some information, such as searches, location lookups, reports, and account forms, is still sent to NGO Finder when you choose to use those features.
Information We Collect
We may collect:
- basic analytics about site visits and page usage on general pages
- search terms and filter choices needed to return directory results
- precise coordinates if you choose "Use My Location" on nearby or intake pages
- information you submit through suggestion, correction, claim, login, or password reset forms
- organisation contact details shown in the public directory
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand overall traffic and improve the site. This may include page views, device information, and general usage patterns.
We do not run Google Analytics on higher-sensitivity pages such as search, nearby location, helplines, and the support intake flow. We do not intend to use analytics to identify you personally.
We still recommend avoiding sensitive personal information in searches or form submissions unless it is needed for the request you are making.
Location and Search
If you use precise location, your browser sends latitude and longitude to NGO Finder so we can calculate nearby services. On the current nearby page, those coordinates may appear in the page URL while the result is open.
You can avoid precise location by searching by city, province, service type, or helpline topic instead.
How We Use Information
- to improve the accuracy and usefulness of the directory
- to review suggested organisations and reported corrections
- to support listing ownership verification and account access
- to monitor site performance and usage trends
Public Listing Information
NGO Finder publishes organisation details such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, addresses, and service information to help people find support.
If information is incorrect or should be updated, please use the report form.
External Apps and Websites
Phone calls, WhatsApp links, email links, map links, and organisation websites open outside NGO Finder. Those services may keep their own records, and activity may also be visible on your device, phone bill, browser history, or messaging app.
Your Choices
You can choose not to submit optional personal information in public forms. You can also use browser privacy tools such as private browsing mode or analytics/cookie controls where available. The Exit Site button leaves the page quickly but does not erase your browser history.
Contact and Updates
This policy may be updated as the project grows and adds new features. If you need to request a change to published information, use the report incorrect info page.
