You are not alone women and family centre ( YANA)

Not verified by owner Open

You Are Not Alone Women and Family Centre (YANAWFC) was founded in October 2020 by Jabulile Cynthia Maseko in Tembisa to offer free counselling services — GBV, trauma, crisis, family, relationship, and psychosocial support — to individuals and families in Ekurhuleni. Operating from their main office in Maokeng, Tembisa, and from sub-offices at three SAPS stations (Nokerm Park, Sebenza, and Edenvale), they reach survivors at the point of first contact with the justice system as well as in the community — running men and boys programmes, women and girls programmes, youth and school outreach, support groups, and community awareness campaigns. Their vision: a violence-free society, built from the ground up through communication, empathy, and early education.

About

You Are Not Alone Women and Family Centre (YANAWFC) was founded in October 2020 by Jabulile Cynthia Maseko — a community response to the GBV crisis in Tembisa and the broader Ekurhuleni area. Their name is a promise: no survivor should face the aftermath of abuse without support. Their vision is a violence-free society, built not only through crisis response but through the longer work of teaching children from an early age the values of communication and empathy — rooting out the conditions from which GBV grows.

Their sub-offices at three SAPS stations — Nokerm Park, Sebenza, and Edenvale — mean that when survivors report GBV to police in these areas, a YANAWFC counsellor is there. This is the kind of structural embedding that prevents survivors from being turned away or re-traumatised at the moment of disclosure.

What They Offer Survivors and Families

GBV Counselling Free, confidential counselling specifically for survivors of gender-based violence — providing a safe, non-judgmental space to process what happened and plan what comes next.

Trauma Counselling Individual trauma counselling for anyone who has experienced a traumatic event — including violence, sexual assault, loss, or crisis.

Crisis Counselling Immediate crisis counselling for individuals in acute distress — available at their main office and through their SAPS station sub-offices.

Family and Relationship Counselling Counselling for families and couples navigating conflict, communication breakdown, and the aftermath of violence — addressing the relational systems in which GBV occurs.

Psychosocial Support Broader psychosocial support for mental health, wellbeing, and resilience — recognising that healing from GBV is an ongoing process, not a single intervention.

Support Groups Group support for survivors — creating community, shared understanding, and mutual encouragement among people who have experienced similar things.

Men and Boys Programme A dedicated programme engaging men and boys — challenging the attitudes, norms, and behaviours that enable GBV and building a generation of men who are allies in its prevention.

Women and Girls Programme A women and girls empowerment programme — building confidence, knowledge, rights awareness, and agency among women and girls in the Tembisa community.

Youth and School Programme School-based and youth programmes bring GBV education, emotional literacy, and rights awareness to young people — intervening before patterns of violence become established.

Community Outreach and Awareness Community awareness campaigns take YANAWFC's message into the streets, homes, and institutions of Tembisa and Ekurhuleni — normalising help-seeking and challenging silence around GBV.

SAPS Station Sub-Offices — Embedded Crisis Support Sub-offices at Nokerm Park SAPS, Sebenza SAPS, and Edenvale SAPS ensure survivors reporting to police in these areas are met immediately by a trained YANAWFC counsellor — preventing secondary victimisation and ensuring access to support from the very first step.
