About

About Maluti Victim Support Centre

The Maluti Victim Support Centre operates from the Maluti Police Station on Main Street, Maluti (also known as Maloti), in the Mbizana Local Municipality of the Alfred Nzo District, Eastern Cape, 4740. Co-location with the SAPS station is the standard South African model for victim support centres — enabling survivors who report crimes to police to be immediately connected to psychosocial support on site.

Community Context

Maluti/Maloti is a very small rural town in the Alfred Nzo District — one of South Africa's poorest and most rural districts, situated in the former Transkei homeland near the KwaZulu-Natal border. The district consistently appears among the Eastern Cape's highest-crime areas for sexual offences and domestic violence, with severe resource constraints affecting both the SAPS and social services. The Maluti area serves numerous surrounding villages and farms, many of which are accessible only by dirt road and have virtually no social support infrastructure.

Services

The Centre typically provides: - Psychosocial support and counselling for survivors of GBV, rape, domestic violence, child abuse, and violent crime. - Victim advocacy and rights information — helping survivors navigate the police, court, and social services systems. - Referrals to the nearest DSD social workers, health facilities, and other services. - Community education on GBV prevention and rights in the surrounding rural area.
