About

About Blood River Advice Office

Blood River Advice Office (also known as BloodRiver Paralegal Advice Office) is a human rights organisation established in 1998 and formally registered as a Non-Profit Organisation in 2002. The organisation is located in Bloodriver Village, Stand 25, Lutheran Church Centre, Polokwane, 0751 — a peri-urban village approximately 14km from the Polokwane city centre in the Capricorn District, Limpopo.

The office was formed after community members recognised systematic violations of human rights and a lack of access to justice in their community — driven by lack of knowledge of rights and inability to afford legal services. The organisation is a member of PILS (Public Interest Legal Services South Africa) and SCAT (Support Centre for Land Change).

Services

  • Paralegal advice and legal information — free guidance to community members on a wide range of issues including domestic violence, protection orders, maintenance, labour rights, housing, grants, and access to justice.
  • GBV support — helping survivors of domestic violence understand the legal process, apply for protection orders, navigate the criminal justice system, and access social services.
  • Human rights advocacy — challenging and documenting human rights violations in the Bloodriver and surrounding communities.
  • Community education — awareness workshops on rights, legal processes, and available support.
